How do I speed up loading mods for Rimworld? [on hold]

-4

Starting Rimworld takes about 15 minutes for me; I have a lot of mods active but that seems excessive.

Obviously not loading mods is faster than not loading mods but then you don't get the mod. Lets for the purpose of this question say that each and every mod in the list is by itself worth the full delay.

That still leaves the start time which I'd like to reduce.

Obviously, all else being equal, a faster computer should help. Going from HDD to SSD to RAMdisk could help but considering how much time it takes I doubt it's an IO problem.

Maybe the load order could be optimised, but with a hundred mods that's 100! possible orders and I have no clue how to search that space.

The rest of the system is unaffected so Rimworld isn't using all the resources, maybe the priority could be raised. I'll try that later.

I usually use a lot of mods in other games and it slows game start noticeably, but Rimworld seems excessive which makes me wonder why. Especially since the actual gameplay is largely unaffected.

Is there something other than remove mods I can do to speed up loading?

Since I was asked for it, my specs:

  • 32 GB RAM

  • SSD

  • i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz

  • Windows 10 Pro

Mod list: https://pastebin.com/Y7XV6TwZ

According to task manager it uses about 10% CPU so if I could get it to use 30% it "should" cut the load time to a third. I expect it is single threaded, the mod loading at least, so that wouldn't really happen.

I added all the mods at the same time the first time I started Rimworld, but the mods aren't relevant. I don't expect 250 mods to be free. The question should be equally interesting to someone who thinks 6 seconds is too much to start the base game.

  • What are your computer specs? Is Rimworld installed on a HDD or an SSD?

  • @Nzall It's on an SSD and my computer is "reasonable" (I don't remember enough to rattle off details). I fail to see how that is relevant to the question though… other people may be interested in the answer who don't have the exact same specs as I. ;)

@Odalrick your point is semi-valid, but there is nothing you can do without recoding the mod(s). Disabling/Enabling one-by-one until you find the culprit allows you to go to the mod devs and see if it's a common problem or if it's a one-off, in which case, it's your machine

Honestly I don't think it's a specific mod. You're loading 237 mods in a game that already takes a few seconds to load. If every mod takes about 3-4 seconds to load (which is pretty typical in my experience), that's your 15 minutes. You're not going to be able to speed that up.
